Chinese medicine + acupuncture
Megan Burns, LAc, MAOM, RH AHG
Megan Burns, L.Ac. offers you a calm environment where your whole self is welcome. Megan incorporates and integrates acupuncture, Western and Chinese herbs, nutritional counseling, essential oils, and recommends qi gong exercise and will partner with her clients to create a relevant, dynamic, and individualized treatment plan.
Megan's approach to medicine is guided by her mission to help clients access their own capacity for deep healing, rather than focus solely on imbalance or disease. She guides her clients towards their own resources, so they feel supported as they make vital changes, release old and unwanted thoughts and habits, and come to see themselves more clearly.
Acupuncture is an ancient medical practice that has treated and prevented disease for thousands of years—people rely on Chinese Medicine to maintain good health as well as to heal from existing health conditions. Megan specializes in Women's and Children’s Health, Pregnancy and Post-partum, Digestive Disorders, Allergies, and Mental and Emotional Health.
Acupuncture is employed to promote health and alleviate sickness through the stimulation of specific anatomical acupuncture points, which help to reduce pain and help the body restore homeostasis. By maintaining homeostasis, the body is able to function in its normal, healthy state.
Acupuncture is effective in treating a wide variety of conditions and is recognized by prominent organizations such as the National Institutes for Health, and the World Health Organizations (WHO). The WHO acknowledges that acupuncture has been proven, through clinical studies, to be effective in treating a long list of ailments including allergies, depression, headaches and physical pain.
Acupuncture is known to increase endorphins (which are the body’s natural painkillers) and increase blood circulation—which, in turn, heals injured tissues and organs and offers pain relief. Acupuncture can clear blockages and obstructions in the body that can cause pain and illness to occur. Other causes of channel obstruction are injury and trauma, emotional imbalance, poor diet, inactivity, lack of rest, and chronic disease. By removing channel obstruction, increasing circulation, and reducing pain, acupuncture is a unique approach to stimulating the body’s own healing mechanisms.
Herbal Medicine and Essential Oil Therapy
Megan utilizes both Western and Chinese Herbal Medicine and Essential oils to support you on your healing path. Herbal Medicine and Essential Oil Therapy are effective ways to supplement your Acupuncture treatments and provide daily support for your healing process. Herbs and essential oils are chosen and tailored to the needs of each patient and can be used to treat both acute and chronic conditions.
Cupping, Gua Sha, and Moxibustion Adjunct Techniques
These techniques are all used to support before or after the acupuncture treatment and are employed when appropriate for your treatment session.
Cupping is a technique used to promote the circulation of qi and blood. Glass cups are gently suctioned to the skin and applied to a local area. The cups can be left in place or moved to promote circulation under the skin. Cupping can help with muscle tension, coughs, pain, and strains. It is often compared to a deep tissue massage. Cupping is also used to release toxins from the body through the suction which penetrates deep into the tissues. Cupping stimulates the lymphatic system thereby helping to move qi and blood.
Gua sha is a technique that helps relieve stagnation or release pathogenic qi from the body. Oil is applied to an area and a Chinese soup spoon is used to scrape (gua) the skin to bring up redness or raised red bumps or bruising (sha). Gua sha involves the scraping the skin which helps relieve.
"After being diagnosed with MS, I was encouraged to try acupuncture as a last resort as my body rejected all MS medication. I was hesitant at first, as I thought I had "too many problems to fix." After meeting Megan the first time, I immediately felt a connection with her. She was a wonderful listener, was very knowledgeable and did not seem overwhelmed from my long list of symptoms. After my first treatment, I noticed changes immediately and I was hooked! She has helped with my pain, fatigue, muscle spasms, and many other physical problems. What I also like about Megan is that she treats your mental/emotional health as well and promotes the mind/body connection. No problem is too big or too small for Megan. She is one of the most amazing people I have ever met! I recently had another MRI and there were no new lesions and I am still free from medication! I am living proof that acupuncture can change your life. Thank you Megan for helping me more than I could ever imagine!"

About Naturopathic Medicine:
Naturopathic medicine combines traditional healing methods with modern day science to create a comprehensive and integrative healthcare approach. The therapies utilized in naturopathy encourage inherent self healing by removing obstacles to cure and facilitating the body’s ability to recover. It focuses on identifying the underlying cause of illness and addresses each individual on an emotional, physical, and mental level.
Naturopathic doctors form a distinct health care profession that emphasize disease prevention, treatment, and promote optimal health. By working cohesively with clients, they address genetic, environmental, and social factors in addition to physical concerns in order to create personalized treatments. NDs use a combination of herbal medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, therapeutic nutrition, counseling, and physical medicine combined with allopathic therapies to allow for integrative care.
Botanical therapies use plants and their constituents as agents to treat and prevent illness. Plants contain various phytochemicals and compounds that have therapeutic effects when used appropriately. This form of medicine has been used for thousands of years to effectively treat many conditions. Naturopathic medicine combines these traditions with evidence based methods to create effective therapies.
Homeopathy is a form of medicine that has been used for over 200 years. It is based on the “law of similars” which helps to stimulate the Vis and initiate the body’s self healing response. Homeopathic medicine uses small doses of natural substances based on an individual’s specific symptoms and personal health.
Hydrotherapy uses water both internally and externally at varying temperatures to help stimulate a healing response in the body. This form of medicine is used around the world to treat a variety of health issues and concerns. Hydrotherapy works well to reduce inflammation, increase circulation, and promote detoxification pathways in the body.
Nutritional supplements use food, vitamins, minerals, and other compounds to help correct deficiencies and enhance pathways in the body. They can be tailored to fit the needs of each individual based on specific symptoms and lab testing. This form of therapy has proven to be both effective and useful for many conditions and diseases.
Naturopaths employ lifestyle counseling through each session to help support patient’s physically and emotionally. A wide variety of tools are utilized to educate and motivate individuals to help reach their health goals. Educating clients about their health is a fundamental concept in naturopathic medicine and helps build a therapeutic relationship.
CST uses light touch to help release tensions in the body, relieve pain, and improve whole body health. It works by releasing restrictions in the soft tissue that surround the central nervous system. It is great for stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps individuals become more relaxed and function properly.
