Life can be difficult moving beyond anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or disturbing memories. When it’s related to a recent or long-ago trauma it can feel overwhelming. With the help of trauma therapy techniques that are scientifically-proven effective, your journey toward wellness is possible.
Reconnecting with ourselves, our body and its messages are essential for holistic healing from trauma. As the body heals, the tension held within it is released, blood circulation improves, and the body increases oxygen levels and reduces inflammation. When talk therapy is not enough, trauma therapy can provide the path, tools, and support needed to regain your life.
✓ childhood physical, sexual or emotional abuse and neglect
✓ loss of a loved one

Sometimes “talk therapy” is not enough. For those moments and situations when trauma is involved, VWS offers several types of trauma therapy to best help clients.
Neurofeedback is direct training for the brain in self-regulation. Self-regulation is a necessary part of optimal brain performance and greater life functioning. LENS Neurofeedback helps the brain to develop new neural pathways, to get "unstuck" from repeated patterns with anxiety, depression, PTSD and more. It helps the brain to self-correct and develop new ways of thinking, behaving and feeling so that you can be at your best in life and in relationships with others.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) works directly with the brain and the way memories, thoughts, feelings and body sensations are stored when we are traumatized.
Many individuals recovering from personal trauma benefit from couples therapy to reconnect with their partners in new ways. Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples or EFT, which has a high success rate in helping partners reconnect in their relationship.
Lemecia began her early counseling work in community agencies and schools, helping children and teenagers who were struggling with social, emotional and behavioral issues, and providing family therapy. Her desire to help children and their families with complex emotional issues led her to explore and later be trained in the most advanced therapeutic approaches for treating trauma.
Lemecia is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and a Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDR Consultant. She is originally from California and moved with her family to the Portland Metro area in 2000, after completing her Master’s Degree in Social Work from San Jose State University. She has been in private practice since 2009.
