Integrative Oncology

Personalized naturopathic care for people navigating cancer treatment, recovery, and survivorship.

A cancer diagnosis can bring an overwhelming number of decisions, appointments, treatments, and questions. Many patients also want to know what they can do to support their strength, nutrition, quality of life, and long-term health without interfering with their oncology treatment.

At Vancouver Wellness Studio, Dr. Jeffrey Mensah, ND, FABNO, provides evidence-informed naturopathic oncology care designed to work alongside your conventional cancer treatment. He collaborates with patients and their established medical teams to create safe, personalized plans for active treatment, recovery, survivorship, and long-term wellness.

Support Through Every Stage of Cancer Care

Cancer care changes over time. Your supportive-care plan should change with it.

Whether you have recently received a diagnosis, are preparing to begin treatment, are currently undergoing treatment, or are adjusting to life after cancer, Dr. Mensah develops care around your current needs and medical plan.

Integrative oncology can provide an additional layer of coordinated support at diagnosis, during active treatment, and throughout post-treatment recovery and survivorship.

Integrative Cancer Care That Supports the Whole Person

Areas of Focus include:

  • Preparing your body for cancer treatment

  • Support during chemotherapy and radiation

  • Support during immunotherapy and targeted therapy

  • Nutrition during cancer treatment

  • Medication and supplement safety reviews

  • Treatment-related fatigue and weakness

  • Nausea, appetite changes, and digestive concerns

  • Sleep and stress support

  • Peripheral neuropathy and discomfort

  • Post-surgical recovery

  • Long-term treatment effects

  • Cancer survivorship care

  • Wellness planning for people with a family history of cancer

Cancer care is about more than addressing a diagnosis. It is also about helping you maintain your strength, understand your options, manage the effects of treatment, and feel supported through an experience that can affect every part of your life.

Dr. Jeffrey Mensah provides integrative oncology support for people preparing for, undergoing, or recovering from treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. His recommendations are developed with careful consideration of your diagnosis, conventional treatment plan, medications, laboratory results, symptoms, nutrition, and personal goals.

Care may include clinical nutrition, lifestyle medicine, botanical and nutraceutical guidance, mind-body strategies, and other naturopathic therapies when appropriate. Every recommendation is designed to complement—not replace—the care provided by your medical oncology team.

Preparing for and Navigating Treatment

Starting cancer treatment often brings uncertainty about what to expect and how to prepare. Dr. Mensah helps patients understand the supportive steps they can take before and during treatment while remaining safely aligned with their oncology team.

Your plan may address nutrition, hydration, sleep, movement, stress, digestive health, and other factors that can influence how you feel throughout treatment. Dr. Mensah also reviews medications, supplements, laboratory results, and treatment schedules before making recommendations.

Support may be provided for patients undergoing:

  • Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Targeted therapy, Radiation therapy, Hormone therapy, Cancer-related surgery

The goal is not to replace or change your prescribed cancer treatment. It is to help you feel more informed, supported, and prepared throughout the process.

Support Through Every Stage of Cancer Care

Nutrition, Supplements, and Treatment Safety

It can be difficult to know what to eat or which supplements are safe during cancer treatment. Advice from friends, social media, and online sources can often be conflicting—and some natural products may interact with medications or cancer therapies.

Dr. Mensah provides individualized nutrition and supplement guidance based on your diagnosis, treatment plan, laboratory results, symptoms, and overall health. Instead of applying a standard “cancer diet” or supplement protocol, he evaluates what is appropriate for your specific circumstances.

Nutrition Care may include:

  • Nutrition support during treatment

  • Strategies for appetite or weight changes

  • Support for maintaining strength and muscle

  • Digestive and microbiome support

  • Review of current vitamins and supplements

  • Identification of possible treatment interactions

  • Evidence-informed botanical and nutraceutical recommendations

  • Coordination with your oncology providers when needed

Because dietary supplements can sometimes interact with cancer treatment, patients should review them with qualified healthcare professionals rather than beginning a new protocol independently.

Supporting Quality of Life During Treatment

Cancer and its treatments can affect energy, digestion, sleep, comfort, mood, and everyday function. Dr. Mensah looks at the full picture to identify safe ways to support your quality of life while you remain under the care of your conventional oncology team.

Recommendations depend on your treatment, current symptoms, health history, and the guidance of your oncology providers. Naturopathic oncology organizations identify symptom management, chronic-condition support, and interprofessional collaboration as central components of integrative cancer care.

Patients may seek supportive care for concerns such as:

  • Fatigue and reduced stamina

  • Nausea or appetite changes

  • Constipation or diarrhea

  • Sleep disruption

  • Stress and emotional strain

  • Peripheral neuropathy

  • Mouth and digestive discomfort

  • Skin changes

  • Pain or general discomfort

  • Metabolic and cardiovascular health

  • Recovery following surgery

Recovery, Survivorship, and Life After Treatment

Finishing cancer treatment can be a major milestone, but it does not always mean that life immediately returns to normal. Fatigue, digestive changes, neuropathy, sleep difficulties, hormonal changes, emotional stress, and concerns about long-term health may continue after active treatment ends.

Dr. Mensah works with cancer survivors to create personalized recovery and wellness plans. Care may focus on restoring daily function, rebuilding healthy routines, supporting organ and metabolic health, addressing ongoing treatment effects, and helping patients move forward with greater confidence.

Survivorship support may include:

  • Post-treatment nutrition

  • Gradual return to movement and exercise

  • Sleep and stress support

  • Metabolic and cardiovascular wellness

  • Digestive and microbiome health

  • Review of long-term medications and supplements

  • Support for persistent treatment-related concerns

  • Sustainable lifestyle planning

  • Coordination with oncology follow-up and surveillance plans
