Be Empowered by Naturopathic Care

Discover how Dr. Lisa Bryant works with a patient to solve persistent medical medical issues through Naturopathic Care.

I recently had a new patient come in struggling with episodes of feeling lightheaded and dizzy. As an active teenage girl, these symptoms were not only concerning but also interfering with her ability to play sports. She even fainted a few times before coming in to see me. Luckily her brain MRI and heart screening came back normal. The patient and her mother were very motivated to get to the bottom of this symptom. I ordered several blood tests and a continuous glucose monitor to get more information. I also inquired about her nutrition, stress levels, sleep and menstrual cycles during our first visit which helped me to determine next steps.

I met with the patient and her mother a week later to review all of her lab results and blood sugar data, revealing several low blood sugar episodes that correlated to these episodes of dizziness. This patient had done a great job recording her foods during the testing window, so I was able to give her individualized nutrition recommendations based on which foods were really helping to stabilize her blood sugar and which ones were causing a glucose crash. We also talked about eating healthy fats, fiber and protein with each meal and snack - and I explained how particular foods work to support her levels. She was provided with a cheat sheet for snack ideas, which she used to pack a snack for school every day and double up before sports practices.

At her follow up visit, she reported a significant improvement in dizziness episodes and now knows how to treat these if they occur. She also noted that her morning nausea had also resolved and she was feeling less foggy and more alert. It makes me happy to see her return to the activities she loves and feel great doing them!
