Spring Allergy Season & Naturopathic Care with Dr. Lisa Bryant
Spring allergies are just around the corner, and I find that getting ahead of them with a prevention plan can make a huge difference. I recommend starting in February to build up your body's defenses before pollen levels rise.
Simple At-Home Allergy Prevention Tips:
Run an air purifier in your bedroom to reduce airborne allergens while you sleep.
Wash your face and hair nightly to remove pollen that accumulates throughout the day.
Change your pillowcase frequently to prevent allergens from settling where you rest.
Keep windows closed on high-pollen days, especially in the morning when pollen counts tend to be highest.
Rinse nasal passages with a saline spray or neti pot to flush out irritants before they trigger symptoms.
Natural Support for Seasonal Allergies:
I also like to start key herbs and nutrients early to help the body modulate its response to allergens:
Local raw honey – Contains small amounts of local pollen, which may help build tolerance over time.
Freeze-dried nettles – Naturally supports histamine balance and reduces inflammation.
Bromelain (from pineapples) – Aids in breaking down mucus and reducing sinus congestion.
Quercetin (found in apples, onions, and berries) – A potent natural antihistamine that helps stabilize immune response.
Vitamin C – Works synergistically with quercetin to support immune health and reduce allergy symptoms.
One of my favorite naturopathic allergy supplements is D-Hist, which combines many of these ingredients into an easy-to-take formula. We carry it here in the office, or you can purchase it online for convenient access.
By starting now, you can help your body build resilience and enjoy a more comfortable spring season. If you’d like personalized recommendations or additional naturopathic support, feel free to schedule a consultation at Vancouver Wellness Studio.
Wishing you a vibrant, allergy-free spring!
